WETT Inspections
A WETT inspection ("Wood Energy Technology Transfer") inspection is a professional evaluation of wood-burning appliances to ensure they meet safety standards, and are in good condition. WETT inspections are often required in Canada for home insurance purposes or when buying or selling a property with a wood-burning appliance.
A certified WETT inspector will assess several key factors, including:
1. Clearances: Ensuring the appliance is installed with proper clearances from combustible materials.
2. Chimney and Venting: Checking the chimney, venting system, and flue for blockages or damage.
3. Appliance Condition: Inspecting the appliance for wear, cracks, or other issues that could affect its safety or efficiency.
4. Code Compliance: Evaluating how the system measures up to todays standards and whether or not manufacturers specifications have been followed.

Level 1 WETT Inspection
A level 1 WETT inspection does not involve any invasive work, such as removing components or cleaning the appliance. It's a basic, non-destructive check to ensure that the system is safe to use and complies with current safety standards. This is often what insurance companies require for wood burning systems.
